JEWELRY

MildCicada

In early July of 2023 (I believe around july 9th?), I started making jewelrly inspired by different songs, albums, etc. Below here you can find most of the pieces I have made so far. A few pieces are missing because I just never took pics of them or anything, but this is most of them. I posted these pieces on Tiktok and Instagram under the account @Makecicada.

Look man I'll finish this eventually but im not in the mood anymore LOL

I really tried to keep myself away from making anything for AT LEAST a week to let my hands rest but I was so fucking bored and so inspired that I just HAD to make stuff. I did it very slowly with constant breaks and immeasurable pain only to make my pain last for even longer because of me not being able to properly rest, life is unfair and horrible for me getting carpal tunnel at age 16 or whatever. This is based off of Euthanasia by Will Wood. it was a really easy design TBH like pretty simple. I sold it for 15$ (prices include shipping) which is insane for me though. That's not enough !@#&*(!&^76!^@$^%^#^. I posted it on 07/15/2023 (I KNOW I KNOW. 2 DAYS AFTER THE OTHER NECKLACES. i couldn't help myself). I got 5000 views, 1085 likes, and 35 comments. Most of them being about how sad the song makes them or whatever lol. Actually looking back on this and writing this. why tf did i just open up custom commissions for pieces again i should not be fucking making jewelry it is not worth the strain on my hands and wrist, especially for the prices i sell stuff at. THIS LAST BATCH OF CUSTOMS WILL BE THE LAST ONE EVER I PROMISE MYSELF.
I worked on these necklaces for days straight and i fucked up my hands so bad I literally could barely move them for a week and had lingering pain for weeks afterwards. Fucking horrid. They're twins, based off of the song Laplace's Angel (Hurt People? Hurt People!) by Will Wood. The Red one is Laplace's Angel and the Green one is Hurt people? Hurt People!. They slayed tbh. I mean, making jewelry is fucking genuinely horrid on my hands when I already have carpal tunnel, and I have almost stopped making it completely for months at a time now (writing this on 11/27/2023 for reference) but always come back to it because someone who's already bought a piece for me asks for a custom or someoen asks for a custom of a cool ass song/album (Currently making Car Seat Headrest Necklace!) or i'm just like I WANT MONEYYY, and I go back to making stuff, but genuienly after I finish the customs I have taken right now I should probably stop doing this forever it makes my hands hurt so bad so quick. Like so much faster than drawing, typing, writing, etc. anything else. ANYWAY though I should be discussing these pieces themselves...umm. Do you like how I picked out frames from the music video that fit the color palettes? :3C. The red necklace sold immediately but the green one didn't sell for like months afterwards. The world is such a hateful and horrible place for the color green it should be appreciated more...I can't really say anything else about these anything I may think about these pieces or how my audience received them is overlooked by how fucking horrible the hand and wrist pain was for me during and after making them FOR SO LONG. so long. I posted them on 07/13/2023. I got 16.4k views and 3785 likes. and 122 comments. This was another video where I got annoyed asf by the attention like damn. I got sick of the damn song by hearing that little blip of it each time I'd be sent back to the video to look at comments. ALSO MADE THE FACT THAT I WAS SELLING THESE FOR 35$ EACH MORE INSANE CONSIDERING THE RESULTS OF WORKING ON THEM BEING MY WRISTS AND HANDS BEIGN COMPELTELY UNUSABLE FOR DAYS TF. The way i edited them looks sick as hell though right?
This necklace is NOT based off of the movie Jaws it is based off of the song Jaws by Lemon Demon which is a song based off of the movie Jaws! This piece never sold :(. I made it because I found that sick shark with a mouth that can open charm at the thrift. This necklace is epic swag to me but i understand why someone may not want to buy it...le sigh. not much to say besides that. posted on 07/10/2023. Got 3,200 views and 550 likes.
This was literally the best fucking thing I ever made and I genuinely feel so regretful in my soul every day that I sold this and no longer have it. I know I keep saying like DAMN this piece was so good but like literally they all were. But like I MEAN IT when this was like my masterpiece this was the best fuckign thing I've ever made I mean look at it look at all the unique beads I used in it and my amazing use of color and space to perfectly match the cover of the Love Me Normally (what song the necklace is based off of. by Will Wood once again who could have fucking guessed) music video. Like damn! wow! it's amazing!. It's very starkly different from a lot of my other pieces in that there's not a whole lot of extra hangy bits and huge charms, but honestly its so amazing in its simplicity like allt he different colors and sizes of unique beads (meaning i could never even remake something close to this *crying emoji*) make up for the lack fo charms and is what your eyes are drawn to like it would have been too cluttered with too many charms! The charms I did use were like a heart locket, and some hematite stars, and some Mothe rof Pearl heart beads, all very neutral whites and greys, which I think worked really well with the brightness of the necklace itself. Fuck. Goddamnit. I miss it. It's soooooososoosososso good. This necklace originally didn't sell for a very long time. (probably just the fact it was one of my first pieces posted etc. Once i started getting a larger fan base all my pieces sold way quicker lol). Once it did sell though i suddenly had so many people be like OMG this necklace I need it!!!! and then I had to tell them it has sadly already sold. Le sigh. All the primary colors and sparks of black and white and use of really large differences in bead size create just such a wonderful fucking piece to look at fuck. I posted this on 07/09/2023 too. It got 5,000 views and 1,000 likes. ITS SO BEAUTIFUL look at those european (that's straight up what those beads are called) beadsssss. I found them at the goodwill bins. You can buy similar ones online but they're hella expensive! And there's no guarantee I'd get the same patterns. When I first got the pakcage of beads I specifically picked out the ones you see on this piece like whoaaa these beads are LITERALLY love me normally by will wood.
The first piece that inspired this whole thing! I was at the Goodwill bins and I found some silver skull charms, and a black necklace, and i was like whoahaha. *inspired*. I spent like an hour taking apart the necklace to use the hanging black beads off of it, because each part of the necklace was individually wrapped together lol. I already had some beads previously because this wasn't my first necklace making rodeo. This reminds me, I need to include the first pieces I made that weren't song/shop related on this page!!! But anyway, I made this, and it looked amazing, and it was great. A lot of my beads I find at the goodwill bins, there's literally always stuff you can find there. Sometimes from taking apart old jewelry, but often, you'll just straight up find tons of unpoened like packages of clearly new beads from Michael's or whatever. Or you'll find what's clearly someone's old stash from their own jewelry making hobby that they've donated (For me to now use!). I could normally NEVER do this shit if I had to pay FULL PRICE for all these damn beads constantly like holy shit beads are ezpensive. And also I feel like its a really amazing way to find more unique beads/charms/pieces etc than you can by just shopping in big art stores. This was my favorite Will Wood song at the time. It changes every few weeks aha. I think this necklace slayed. I got like 6 thousand views on the video I made and so many comments of people beign like NEED I WANNA BUY IT!!! But it took so long for someone to ACTUALLY buy it. This was likely not made better by the fact that I was too embarrased to add the price/info to buy it etc. on the Tiktok post originally (i just did so in the Instagram post description). I was so embarassed to try to sell something. Like what if nobody wanted to buy it and I was just writing like all this info to buy it and no one buys it and I'm a piece of shit you know? I sold it for 35$. Which was like. way too fucking little. I sold all my pieces for that much at the time like holy shit. I had the price be like 35$ + shipping in the description, but then people would ask to buy it and be like, it's 35$ right? And I'd be too fuckign embarrased to be like umm yeah but shipping too. IDK WHAT THE FUCK WAS WRONG WITH MEEEE I still get so hesitant to actually name a price when someone is asking me for a custom like damn what if they think it's too much...But holy shit 35$ for this was such a fucking STEAL. All the necklaces that I sold for 35$ when i'd spend like hours on them is insane. I also sold the "Remember My Name" one for that much. and all the others after this, until I explicitly mention I raised the prices just assume that's how much it cost lol. Also, IDK why the picture is sideways I'm not fixing it though...also now that I'm thinkng about it, it would probably have been best to order these pieces with the oldest at the top, as I seem to be writing these entries as if the viewer has also already read all the ones before it. I am ALSO not fixing this though! I posted this on the same day as the Remember My Name necklace. Also can we talk about the amazing ass idea I had for how I should presnent my pieces with the backgrounds of music videos etc. as the backgrounds of the piece? Like it genuinely adds so much to making a piece look good and is honestly the reason I think I stood out so much originally from other people who do similar concepts to what I do (beaded jewelry themed off of songs etc.) who i'd see get like no attention. It just makes it look sooo mcuh better!!! But also its such a fucking pain in the ass and takes forever to go and manually erase the backgrounds from my pieces and edit them all to look nice. Another fucking tragedy for how I was selling stuff for 35$ when it'd take me so long to even POST the damn things. It looks really nice though...Oh right also this reminds me. A tiktok of someone else's necklace based off of Mitski's Lush album is what originally inspired me to do this as a whole I believe...I just remembered that. These necklace descriptions aren't really written with any purpose in mind and are just my thoughts on a specific piece as they come up, as you can tell. This was supposed to be more "archival" and official I guess but how can I just write when something was posted an dbe done with it?!?!!? y'all need to know all the context behind my thoughts on these pieces...
This necklace was based off of the song "Remember My Name" by Mitski. This is one of my favorites and I was thinking about that song a lot at the time that I made it. It's so Vast you see. Technically I made and finished the Memento Mori necklace first, but This is the first necklace I actually posted on my Instagram, thoguh I believe I posted the Memento Mori necklace first on Tiktok. This video blew up, and I got sooo many people asing to buy this piece ahahaha it sold very quickly. Also idk why but this video like made it to lots of spanish speaking people on tiktok LOL. I got really sick of this piece just because it would always show up in my notifications and i'd get like a literal billion comments all just saying like "NEED." lol. It turned out nice or whatever, its nice. I don't have much to say about it. I would do it in a completely different way now, my understanding of the song has completely changed. I got 53 thousand views on this and like 200 comments. I posted it on 07/07/2023.

These are custom pieces that I never posted (or could find the finished pictures for in one case...). I don't know when exactly I made them, so I just stuck them here at the bottom since I couldn't place them chronologically like the others. The one with a cigarette and raggedy anne doll was based off of the song "Well...Better Than The Alternative" By Will Wood. Especially the lines "Cigarette burns, laugh lines, wide dimples, if they could see the future back when times were simple." I decided to split the keychain into two chains based off of the first and second half of the lyrics. One of them representing like being older, with a cigarette charm being specifically ordered because of well, the lyric haha. The second half also had specially ordered charms, crayon boxes. That chain was meant to be like childhood, nostalgia, etc. For the piece with a skull and star on it...I genuinely do not remember which song it was for. I know it was a Will Wood one off of the In Case I Make It album but I seriously have zero clue. The piece with the mouse charms on it was based off of the song "Tomcat Disposables" by..you guessed it. Will Wood! This piece is made to look like a scene in the music video, at second 4:25, where the mouse is like floating through space with lots of vivid colors coming off of him. Hence, the general black and orange color scheme of the In Case I Make It album as a whole, with the added rainbow colors spread throughout. I kind of wasn't sure about this idea at first when the person first discussed it with me but honestly it came out great. Also, the mouse charms because of the song being about, a mouse! (technically the charms are rats i'm pretty sure though...)
